Wayward Whale

Mom and dad live on the Delta and one year, two lost humpback whales came swimming up the river. They were a mom and her calf and everyone soon was referring to them as Delta and Dawn and following the news to find out how efforts were going to get them back to the ocean. After making it all the way up to Sacramento, they finally were turned around and herded back the right direction and finally slipped out to see one night. When they were near the town where my parents live, I happened to be home that weekend and so we went to see them.

This wasn’t the first time that a humpback whale had come up the river. Humphrey is probably the most well known. He came up on his own back in the 80’s. If I remember correctly, he swam up multiple times… Anyway, I was thinking of them when I made this design.
